Integrated Pilaster Blocks

These units physically form part of the pilaster but are already counted in the main wall takeoff.

These are the additional blocks that must be purchased beyond the normal wall-plane block.

Freestanding Column Blocks

Enter the actual CMU arrangement used in one complete course of the column.

Core Fill / Grout

Enter 0 for no grout, 1 for one filled core per unit, 2 for both cores in a typical two-core unit, or another value appropriate to the unit being used.

ft³
Use a manufacturer or verified unit-specific grout-fill value. Internal CMU void geometry varies, so this calculator intentionally does not assume a universal grout volume.

Support Quantity 1
Required Courses 0
Full Modular Height —
Partial Top Course —
Physical Support Units 0.00 blocks
Added / Column Blocks 0.00 blocks
Block Waste 0.00 blocks
Estimated Support Blocks to Purchase 0 blocks

For an integrated pilaster, the purchase quantity includes only additional pilaster CMU beyond blocks already counted in the wall. For a freestanding column, all column blocks are included.

Core Fill / Grout Results

Filled Cores 0.00 cores
Grout Before Waste 0.00 ft³
Grout Before Waste 0.000 yd³
Grout Overrun 0.00 ft³
Estimated Grout Required 0.000 yd³

Grout volume remains zero until a grout volume per filled core is entered. This prevents the calculator from silently assuming the internal void geometry of the CMU being used.

Columns / Pilasters Reference

Integrated Pilaster

An integrated pilaster is bonded into the wall. Some CMU in the pilaster also form part of the normal wall plane.

The calculator therefore separates physical support units from the additional units that must be added to the wall takeoff.

Freestanding Column

A freestanding masonry column is independent of the wall-panel block count. All CMU used in each course of the column are included in the purchase quantity.

Course Height

Standard nominal CMU layout commonly uses an 8-inch vertical module, including the mortar joint.

A 6-foot support therefore contains nine 8-inch courses. Custom nominal block heights can also be entered.

Grout Capacity

Nominal block dimensions do not determine grout capacity by themselves. Internal webs, shells, core geometry and specialty units vary.

Use a manufacturer or otherwise verified grout-fill factor for the actual CMU being installed.

Width & Depth

Width and depth are shown on the top-view diagram for layout reference. The calculator does not automatically infer a CMU bond pattern from those dimensions.

Enter the actual blocks-per-course arrangement being used so material quantities reflect the intended construction.

Structural Design

This tool provides layout and material quantities. It does not determine required column size, pilaster spacing, reinforcing steel, footing dimensions or structural capacity.
