04

How It Works

The solver uses the Pythagorean theorem and standard trigonometric relationships.

A² + B² = C²

Pythagorean Theorem

In a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the two shorter sides.

tan(θ) = Rise ÷ Run

Tangent

Tangent relates the vertical rise to the horizontal run and is commonly used to determine an angle.

Slope % = Rise ÷ Run × 100

Slope

Slope percentage expresses the amount of vertical change for each unit of horizontal distance.

Pitch = Rise per 12 Run

Pitch

Pitch converts the same triangle relationship into the familiar rise-per-12 format commonly used in construction.
